my sister had a pacemaker fitted in september, one of the reasons her heart rate drops very low when she is sleeping , the doctors told her that one day it will go that low that she wont wake up again, she has had problems with her heart for nearly 20 yrs but since having the pacemaker fitted she has been worse , because its making her heart beat faster , she now wonts the thing removed , what i wonted to know is if she has it removed what will hapen to her heart rate will it stay the same or will it drop again to what is was before , will this put more damage onto her heart. thanks guys.Anybody know about pacemakers?

The presence of a permanent pacemaker may not necessarily imply a permanent need for cardiac pacing. Discontinuation of cardiac pacing may be justified if a preponderance of clinical findings suggests that pacing is no longer indicated or that the risks of the continuous replacement of the device outweigh the potential benefits of implantation. The method and timing of pacemaker removal need to be clarified by an expert panel and, ultimately, by a randomized trial.
If she has it removed things will be as they were before.
